About nyanidoc

 

I have over thirty years of experience as an editor (books, book chapters, scientific journal articles, theses, dissertations, grants, popular writing) and writer (chapters, scientific journal articles, grants, nonfiction and fiction). Nonfiction prize winner in Lit. mag. contests, finalist in Lit. mag. fiction contest.

 

My goal is to help writers produce a manuscript that expresses their message best in a voice appropriate to their intended audience. I ensure that their material exhibits correct grammar and syntax and adheres to the style required: Concise and descriptive for academic articles, chapters, or books and dramatic for popular writing.

 

My favorite books are To Kill a Mockingbird and The Sound and the Fury. I lived in East Africa for nearly 3 years studying baboons and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I sent a 3,700-word research paper with a long, rather specific set of instructions: copy-edit only, keep British spelling, don't restructure sentences for flow, and leave certain phrasings alone because they do specific work. Nyanidoc followed all of it! Where she thought a word could be improved but it was a matter of judgment rather than correctness, she left a comment instead of changing it herself. That was exactly what I wanted, and it was rarer than it should be. She also caught real problems I had read past a dozen times — a comma splice, and several participles with no logical subject. The handful of changes I'll decline are matters of house preference, not errors. Returned on time, with clean tracked changes that were easy to work through. I'd use her again.
